Years ago, Master Woodcarver Boris Khechoyan became dissatisfied with the commercially available carving tools that he was using in his workshop. Being the expert artisan that he has become, he decided to design and create his own tools by hand. As a result, the design of the most useful woodcarving knives available today was created.
The design of these knives is ingeniously simple. With its sleek and purely functional design, you will accomplish more with these knives than any other on the market today. Each knife is 6.25 inches (16cm) long and made of high speed steel (HSS). Each unique blade design is carefully handmade to exact specifications. The handle free design allows for obstructive free movement of the knife; allowing for greater freedom and expression for your design and creation.
BAK-KHECHOYAN'S CARVING TOOLS, LLC has decided to make these handmade knifes available to you. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned professional in the art of woodcarving, this collection of professional grade knives will clearly take your art to another level. This collection of handmade knives is available only through BAK-KHECHOYAN’S CARVING TOOLS, LLC.
BAK-KHECHOYAN'S CARVING TOOLS, LLC uses high speed steel (HSS) in the construction of his carving tools, not because it is one of the most popular grades of “tool steel” in the United States today, but because of its properties. It is often used in power saw blades and drill bits. It is superior to the older high carbon steel tools used extensively through the 1940’s in that it can withstand higher temperatures without losing its temper (hardness), holding hardness even when exposed to temperature up to 1,000° F. This property allows HSS to cut faster than high carbon steel, hence the name high speed steel. The requirements for high speed steel components include hardness, wear resistance (provides six to ten times more wear than conventional blade steel), strength, ductility, and dimensional precision. In addition, a high final sintered density is important because most properties improve with it.
When tool steel contains a combination of more than 7% tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium and cobalt along with more than 0.60% carbon, it is referred to as high speed steel (HSS).
